So, I picked up this book while I was in Diagon Alley. Having never been one to sit down and write down my feelings, I hope that it will help me deconstruct the thoughts running around in my head.

Since returning to England, I must say I feel a lot more free. I no longer worry that I am being followed all the time and mother says that the letters have slowed down that come to the house. The crazy one is demanding they tell her where I am but since we have never responded to her mail, this will be no different. The Auror diverts most of the things she sends anyways. Apparently, I did get a lovely bouquet of dead roses.

Working at the museum is calming. Certainly, I get the few fans that come to see the exhibits and are surprised to see me working there on my hiatus but they have a genuine love for the game that I want to cultivate. I wish there were more of them who came to see all we have to off here.

Hestia, she is lovely that is certain but there are things behind her eyes that I do not understand. So much responsibility that I worry she will over load herself. Still I do not know her well enough to say such things and can only offer my support. Considering her history, I understand why she is hesitant to accept.

It is clear that the events I witnessed and experienced during the tournament are still troubling this country. Poor Fleur and Bill having their wedding attacked like it was and then all of us being interrogated it was an affront! But who do go to about something like this?

History and Goals
A brief history of the character:
Viktor grew up in Bulgaria, and attended the Durmstrang Institute. He was one of the last people to obtain a wand made by the noted wand-maker Gregorovitch. During his time at the school, he was confronted by the symbol of Gellert Grindelwald which had been carved into the walls by the wizard himself. Other students at the school began copying the symbol onto their books and clothing as a way of trying to shock and impress. Highly insulted since his grandfather had been killed by Grindelwald, Viktor and several other students who had also lost family at the hands of the Dark Wizard taught them the error of their ways—painfully. He also was given detention for fighting.

At Durmstrang, Viktor found himself excelling at subject like Arithmancy , Charms and Dark Arts. His mother expressed concern about his affinity but he managed to convince her that his interest was only academic rather than practical. He liked the Dark Arts if only to find other more benign uses for a lot of the spells they were taught.

A skilled Quidditch Seeker, Viktor was selected to play for the Bulgarian National Quidditch team despite still being at school, and was widely regarded as one of the best players in the world. In 1994, he played in the Quidditch World Cup, and helped Bulgaria reach the final against Ireland.
During the final match, Viktor fooled the Irish Seeker, Aidan Lynch, by performing a Wronski Feint that resulted in Lynch ploughing into the ground. Despite his skills, the Irish side was too good for the Bulgarians, and Viktor decided to end the match by catching the snitch. During his pursuit of the Snitch, he was hit in the face by a Bludger which broke his nose and gave him two black eyes. However, he caught the Snitch and ended the match on his own terms. He received a runners-up medal along with the rest of the Bulgarian team following the conclusion of the match.
The price of fame could be overwhelming for Viktor and he found that unlike his teammates it was easier to be alone. It was hard for him to discern if someone wanted to be around him for him rather than the fact that he was a Quidditch player.

When the Tri-Wizard Tournament was announced Viktor was proud to be part of the delegation chosen to go to Hogwarts to try to compete. He always intended on putting his name into the cup, if only as a personal challenge to himself. As part of the Durmstrang delegation that travelled with Igor Karkaroff to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry to compete in the Tri-wizard Tournament on October 30th. Viktor’s presence at the school caused a stir amongst the student body since he was famous, and he was followed by groups of giggling girls. As planned he entered his name into the Goblet of Fire to participate in the Tournament, and was selected as the Durmstrang Champion during the Halloween Feast on October 31st. He expressed no opinion on the entry of a fourth Champion - Harry Potter - into the Tournament when he found out.

Prior to the start of the Tournament, Viktor took part in the Wand Weighing ceremony overseen by Mr. Ollivander, and warranted only a small mention in Rita Skeeter's article on the Tournament. Skeeter's article focused on Harry Potter's entrance into the Tournament, and Viktor was only mentioned in the last line of the article; even then, his name was misspelled. Viktor couldn’t help but find this snub both amusing and a relief. Not being the center of attention was like a breath of fresh air

Viktor spent a lot of time at Hogwarts in the library, as he had become attracted to Hermione Granger. Each day, he went to the library with the intention of talking to her, but could not work up the courage. With the approach of the Yule Ball, Viktor finally found the courage to ask Hermione to the ball as his date. They, with the other Champions, opened the dancing at the Ball; and Hermione spent the evening trying to teach Viktor how to pronounce her name correctly. Something that while a little embarrassing was totally worth it as it focused her attention on him all evening.
Back on dry land, after the second task Viktor confessed to Hermione that he had never felt about a girl the way he felt about her; and invited her to stay with him in Bulgaria over the summer.

It was the third task that almost destroyed Viktor and changed him forever. He entered the maze behind Harry and Cedric, and began searching for the Triwizard Cup. During the task, Barty Crouch Jr, posing as Alastor Moody by way of the Polyjuice Potion, managed to place the Imperius Curse on Viktor as part of his plot to steer Harry Potter to victory in the Tournament. Under Moody’s control, he caught up with Cedric and performed the Cruciatus Curse on him. However, he was stunned by Harry and left unconscious. Cedric, against his better judgment, used his wand to shoot red sparks into the air, allowing him to be rescued from the maze.

Following the Tournament and the murder of Cedric Diggory, Viktor attended the Leaving Feast, which was also a memorial service for Cedric. Viktor left Hogwarts the next day, saying a private goodbye to Hermione, giving Ron his autograph and expressing to Harry his regret over the death of Cedric.

Returning to Bulgaria was a whirlwind even coming in second in the competition was nothing like the underlying sense of wrongness that Viktor couldn’t shake. The news never did report what really happened and that was disappointing to him. Did people not know the danger they could all be in with the Dark Lord’s return?

Slowly life for Viktor returned to normal or at least his version of normal. He finished up with school and took the expected place on the Vratsa Vultures. Playing was a pleasure for Viktor before the fans came into play. Most of them were harmless wanting an autograph or photo and he didn’t begrudge them that. There were a select few that were more persistent

Viktor would get inappropriate items in the post, and he had hired someone to handle that specifically. While he didn’t date too much, he did manage to get over Hermione Granger. He considered her a good friend and wrote to her often just keeping her up to date on his life.
Into his second year on the team Viktor started getting very disturbing letters in the post, mostly about the woman who wrote to him or god forbid if he actually went on a date. The letters got increasingly more violent until Viktor had to turn them over to the local Aurors. They tried their best but whoever was sending the letters apparently knew how to prevent tracking.

The last straw for Viktor was one evening he was escorting one of the friends of his younger sister home when she was hit by a hex from an unseen assailant. Thankfully they had been able to get her to hospital before she suffered permanent damage but the experience had decided for him. After talking to his coaches and the team owners, Viktor took a sabbatical from the team.

After about a week of seclusion Viktor was going stir crazy and the letters had not stopped coming, this time they kept asking where he was and why he didn’t love her anymore. He couldn’t take it and being locked up in his flat was maddening, to his relief though his letter opener found a letter from the Museum Quidditch in London asking him if he would be willing to sit for a portrait. He grabbed the chance for freedom and secured a private international portkey.

Once in London, Viktor kept a low profile but it felt wonderful knowing that his stalker couldn’t reach him. The curator was very kind and the portrait sitting went well. Once it was done, Viktor noticed a sign looking for an assistant curator. The pay wasn’t that great but he still applied knowing he could rely on his savings. At least in London he could enjoy some small freedoms if he could stay out of the press’s radar.

Short term goals (up to 6 months): Enjoy his sabbatical, work at the Museum of Quidditch.
Long term goals (6+ months): He’s open to the future maybe return to Quidditch if he can be free of his stalker

Writing Sample
Please write 300-500 words, showing us how your character reacted to one of the following: the death of Dumbledore,

The black owl swooped in over the Krum family table over breakfast. Udo accepted the letter and immediately handed it over the Auror in charge of checking the mail for them. After casting the needed charms and spells the letter was returned to Udo who carefully opened the seal and glanced at the letter as he sipped on his coffee. Immediately he put down the cup and cleared his throat.

“Everyvone, please listen, there’s been an attack on Hogvarts!.”

The whole table still and Viktor’s thought pulled up Hermione’s smiling face, he hoped that she was ok. “Vather, is everyvone ok? Who attacked?” Udo was quiet as he still continued to read the letter to himself. Then he shook his head sadly and removed his glasses.

“Sadly, Dumbledore has been murdered by Death Eaters. He is to be interred at Hogvarts.” Astrid let out a gasp and Viktor bowed his head. He had fond memories of his time at Hogwarts and Dumbledore played a part in those memories, both positive and negative.

“Ve’ll need to send our condolences of course.” Udo continued before looking at Viktor. “Son, do you vish to attend the memorial?” Viktor thought about it for a minute but then shook his head. “I could become a distraction there. I do not vish to take away from the circumstances.”

Udo nodded and set down the letter, his son was an adult and he had to respect his decisions. In this case though he agreed, Dumbledore’s funeral did not need to become a celebrity affair.
